If I'm going to be using DW more often I feel like I should update my icon options, but man, where do you even go for icons anymore :D I should check if my old hard drive still has my icon folder. I used to have hundreds saved in the hayday of LJ. I also think I had the account that had loads of icon space, it was basically the only reason I got a paid account.

Also because of this I went to look at my old Photobucket account and I even remembered my password! All my old photos I posted to LJ are still there!!! :O I guess if at some point I'm super bored I could go back to my imported posts from LJ and fix all the broken photo links??? (I doubt I'll ever be that bored)

Haha the newest photos I've uploaded there are mostly One Direction gifs. There is so much 1D stuff there :DDD my fannish past coming back to haunt me. I was still on LJ when One Direction was a thing! But it seems photobucket has since added water marks on these for some reason???


omg this is such a nostalgia trip! I'm back in the bandom layer now... Dare I dig deeper?

Okay enough of that, or I'll be here all night. But it's pretty cool to see a site I've been using since 2005??? (maybe) is still there. Pretty rare I would guess. It seems you need to pay money these days to get the watermarks off and things like that and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. Where do people host images these days and is it free?

Also I found a Troy and Abed moodheme I had uploaded, do people remember those? People used to make hundreds of tiny gifs for people to use as moods on their LJ

It's independence day tomorrow, so I have a day off work! Whoo~ I should start packing I guess and then I think I will just play some more Odyssey.

I think there are still icon comms? These days I just...well, I make it myself if I have to, but tbh I'm mostly still using icons from way back when on LJ and have a folder somewhere with them all...

I forgot to say, for posting images to dw, dw's own hosting should work fine. But if you need to post those to somewhere else, like ao3, I've found imgur works really well. It's got a weird social network aspect to it where your recent uploaded photos will go on the front page of the site and everyone can see them, BUT you can get around that by setting your albums to hidden. Direct links and embeds will work, but your images won't appear anywhere and nobody will see the albums if they go to your page, unless you give them the direct link to the album.

I used to make icons too back in the day, but I dunno if I want to get back to that. I did actually find my old icon folders on my old external hard drive, so I was able to switch out some icons and I'm pretty okay with what I found.

I should look into the DW's own hosting, I have vague memories that on LJ the upload process was a bit of a hassle, but maybe it's different here. And thanks for the tip about imgur, I've heard that name around, good to know to make my albums hidden, I def do not want to share anything I upload with everyone!

Oh cool! I used to make them too (I never got super good at it though) and now I'm feeling all nostalgic about icon communities too. :D

Ooh, thanks for the rec, I'll have to look at that as well. I mean I'm not sure how often I'm going to be uploading photos here, but it will be good to have options.

Aw, love the nostalgia! I missed the whole boyband fandom train, but I fell deep into Star Trek, so it worked out.

I remember custom mood themes! I was actually just trying to figure out how to find and upload one here, because I'm unfortunately over the little bunnies.

2009 was a good fandom year for me, I went from Stargate Atlantis to the new Star Trek movie fandom. Both of those fandoms really spoiled fans with amazing fic.

I think on DW you need a paid account for custom moodtheme, or at least that's what it seemed like when I looked at the features listed for paid accounts. I really want to upload one too, the default options aren't very good...
