Hockey in Helsinki

Went to Helsinki to see two hockey games this past weekend. Had to take the Onnibus because the trains were super expensive. (the bus tickets were 29€)
This all worked out really well because I got an online friend to go with me so I didn't have to sit alone (which sucks and I don't want to do that again) She's a HPK fan and I wanted to see Jokerit play and both teams had a game this weekend so we went to see both :D
This was me that morning on the bus. I missed the local bus and had to walk into town, I was not amused. And the bus driver almost gave me a heartattack when he said I had the ticket for the next day (I did, he was looking at my return ticket)

This is the only Helsinki photo I took, the weather was terrible the whole time, sleet and snow and almost rain at some points

Our seats were right by the glass (this is during warmups) a couple of times a puck would hit close by or there was a hit and it was startling each time

We sat right next to the player bench and each time they stood up there was no way to see to the other end of the ice... :D thunderwarning (not using her real name) said she smelled sweat, but I didn't notice anything. I guess sometimes it's a good thing not to have a very sensitive sense of smell

Spent the night sleeping on my aunt's couch, which was just as narrow as it was the last time, but at least their tiny demon dog was still very cute

Warmups! These seats were great for actually seeing the ice and being able to follow the game. First time for me (I've seen 4 games now!)

they had these inflatable thingies you could use to make noise with and I had too much fun with them... (also the straw you use to blow them up jumped out the packet and under the seats of the people sitting in front of us, but luckily I had bought a drink and used my coke straw to blow the air in)

anthems

Whoo~ hockey!

dunno if this video will work, but the arena did a great job making a show out of the whole thing. Even if the music was too loud sometimes
Then I had to buy merch, even though I didn't really mean to... >_> But look the scarf has Gryffindor colors! If they had had that jersey too I would have been super tempted.

They didn't have t-shirts with player numbers except these KHL All-Star ones, so I got one. Moses! You go tiny scoring machine!

Then of course I had to buy books. Like how am I supposed not to buy books? The Heyer books were normal price but the three other ones were only 5€ a pop (also that helmet thing is from the first game, hee~)

Date: 2015-02-03 01:20 pm (UTC)So would you recommend the bus company (it was Onnibus, right?) for such a long trip? I've heard some mixed reviews from friends & family.

Date: 2015-02-03 03:17 pm (UTC)It was fine, there isn't much legroom (similar to a plane) so tall people might hate it. On the way back the bus was full so I had to sit next to someone and the toilerpaper ran out in the toilet, but I would use it again, didn't have any real complaints

Date: 2015-02-03 06:15 pm (UTC)Unsurprisingly, the legroom issue is very important to me. x) So I might be ok for a short trip but maybe not to Kuopio. Vr it is then.
