Wild picspam (part two)
Oct. 22nd, 2013 12:39 amNow the rookies!
I don't know if they actually qualify as rookies anymore, as most of them played quite a bit last year, but because we don't really have any new ones, I still count them as rookies. Or bb!Wild players
I'm not going to talk much about them, as they aren't that important for the story and I think it's enough if you get a sense of what they look like.
This is Jonas Brodin, he get's to go first because he's the most awesome.
He is a baby and played last season as a 19 year old (he is 20 now)

He's Swedish and seems very modest and a bit shy maybe? Suter has said that's he's come out of his shell a bit more this season, so that's nice.

He looks a bit bewildered if you film him right from the front.

He plays with Ryan, who I've already mentioned and they make up the top D pairing for the Wild. Suter has been singing Brodin's praises pretty much from day one.

On the ice, he's super reliable and doesn't seem to make any rookie mistakes you'd expect. Every Wild fan was scandalized that he didn't win the Calder last year. *mumbles about east coast bias and forward bias*

This is Mikael Granlund. He's Finnish and was touted as the top prospect for the team before last season started. Sadly he didn't really have what it took back then and finished the season in the AHL. This year he seems much stronger and better overall.

He's kind of a big deal in Finland

mostly because of this (they even made a stamp about it, I'm not kidding)
He played wing last year, but the Wild hope he'll become a center for them and he's been playing that this year (also he has the same number as Yakupov, but I think Granny had it first) Oh and his nickname is Granny... So when I talk about a granny in my fic I'm not actually saying there is a grandmother playing in the team. *facepalm* (he is in fact 21)

This is Charlie Coyle, aka Chuck or Chuckie (he's 21)

he was great for the team last year, when he ended up playing most of the season with Mikko and Zach

He's injured right now, but in the beginning of the season he and Granny were competing for the second line center job.

This is Jason Zucker, him and a random fan (sorry random fan, but you did post this on tumblr...)

This is them sleeping in a super fancy bus. I think they were training together this summer and they seem to be close friends (they lived together last season when they were both with the team)

Zucker scored the overtime goal in the only game the Wild won against the Hawks. So that is still a big deal. (especially because he was sent down in the beginning of this season and hasn't been able to stick with the team so far. Some fans think he shouldn't have been sent down, although his camp wasn't great. Also he got suspended in the AHL for a really dirty hit, so it's possible he's not taking his 'demotion' very well)

Sometimes he looks much older than he is (he's also 21)

This is Nino Niederreiter (you guessed it, he's 21 too)

He's Swiss and we got him from the Islanders and gave them Clutterbuck

He seems to be working pretty well with the team so far, which was a relief as he had some issues with his old team

He is one of the few Wild players who actually uses his twitter

The rookies were tearing it up before the season started :D Some rookie bonding time...

(Notice how Granny didn't go to see TSwift... I find this amusing)
It also seems that the rookies all live in the same building, or did last year anyway. I find this adorable. Zucker and Coyle were road roommates and I think Granny and Brodin were too. I'm not sure what is happening this season.
We also have a new baby defenseman this season Mathew Dumba (who's number is 55, causing the hilarious dumbass joke to be possible)

I didn't think he'd make the team this year, so I don't have him in my fic. He's 19 after all and now many young defense men do you really want in your team? I'm personally not sold on him yet, as he is prone to making rookie mistakes (unlike Brodin) and has had off nights. I guess we'll know soon if they are sending him back to juniors or not.

So these are the rookies I care about (missing Coyle here)

Group photo time! (aka bring in all the hugging photos)
but first here is a gif, just because

Not really hugging yet, Mikko is obviously waiting for someone to join them (also Scandy and Fontaine also maybe qualify as rookies? I'm not sure, but they're not important to the fic, so I'm ignoring them. Sorry guys)

Mikko does this a lot. It pleases me...

Yay hugs!

Some goalie love! (totally forgot about them, damn... Niklas Backstrom is Finnish and usually the starter, Harding has been the backup and was a huge story last year because he has MS. This season Harding has been amazing, while Backie had a pretty bad start and then got injured. He should be back in the next game though)

More hugs! (Poor Brodin looks a bit scared)
'
moar hugs, idk who they are waiting for, Brodin would be my guess.

Don't hit us, we are defenseless and adorable! (also hi Backs hi! See I have some photos with the goalies...)

Captain hugs

Not quite yet hugs

Zach and Ryan are laughing at Mikko, who didn't get the joke. Brodin isn't sure if it's okay to laugh at your captain.

This is from the pre-training camp camp or actual training camp... I already forgot. The main point is that Mikko and Zach are sitting on the boards chatting.

this is from the same day. (Zach is a lot more popular than Mikko :D) ((also notice that kid wearing a Crosby jersey))

The green jerseys are very nice btw. I think sometimes the team wishes they were their home jerseys.

Zach waiting for Mikko this time. Also Clutter sighting. (he went to the Islanders on draft day)

You always have to wait for your teammates to join hugs. Very important. (and you can see the height difference well here)

I just like how Zach looks here :D

Zach walking with Rupp (our 4th line guy, with Mikko creeping in the background with Cullen [he's now a Predator *sad face*]

Practice jerseys

Always pet your goalie

Pommer looks very short here. He's actually taller than Zach, I think

a cameo from the coach Mike Yeo, also observe how close Mikko and Zach are sitting compared to Mikko and Matt Cullen

Okay enough random photos! Now a few more of the families and then I swear I'm done.
Like the caption says here are Zach's parents. They always end up in TV when they come see the games live. Also they sat with 'normal fans' instead of going up into the suites or pressboxes or whatever they are called.

This is Hanna Koivu, Saku's wife and their kids Ilona and Aatos

This is Saku Koivu with Mikko (who looks very young here)

This looks a bit more recent. Mikko is a lot taller than his older brother, which amuses me... (btw: Saku was the captain for the Canadiens for a long time [ten years], but now plays for the Ducks)

Here's a photo where the kids are a bit older

So if you made it this far, I salute you! :D I hope this helped a bit, with putting faces to names.

Date: 2013-10-22 02:32 am (UTC)I can't wait to read your fic because STORIES ABOUT THE WILD!
would it be alright if I linked this to my Wild Primer? because you use way more quotes and it's very organized and awesome.

Date: 2013-10-22 06:44 am (UTC)I hope you will like the story, even though it somehow got super long...
Yes, that would be fine, I should put a link to your primer too, because I obviously skipped a lot of the players and maybe someone would like to know about them too. (this was just getting so long already and I just couldn't keep going. :D)

Date: 2013-10-27 11:10 pm (UTC)I don't think there is any fic tbh. There is very little fic about the team in general and almost nothing about our Finns. ^_^

Why is no one getting on this?? ;_; I'm not even in the hockey fandom so I can't really complain though :D But I'd really, really read this! Any of these! I literally flailed a little bit when I first saw this and it's still pushing a lot of my favorite fic tropes buttons. Maybe someday!
Thank you for this, the mental images it gave were awesome! :D

Date: 2013-10-29 07:52 pm (UTC)Yay, you are the first Ducks fan I've 'met' in this fandom. I obviously have to cheer for them, because of Saku and Teemu, how could I not. I really hope things will work out better for them this season. That series against Detroit was insane! Have you seen any games live? I've heard that tickets are a bit cheaper there, compared to some more traditional markets.
I'm going to comment about that AO3 comment here, so I don't spam that entry too much, but what is that Mikko/Shea fic like? I'm super curious now. :D (Of course, you don't have to reveal anything about it, if you don't want to.)

Date: 2013-10-29 08:08 pm (UTC)The Mikko/Shea fic omg. Well!!! I LOVE talking about it. It's a long fic that starts with Mikko and Shea both being broken-hearted over people they can't have, and having a really awesome one night stand in the midst of that. And then it so happens that things are really bad between their teams because the Preds feel that the Wild got something they shouldn't have gotten, in Suter. And Mikko, like a good captain, figures out a way to give something to the Predators that cancels out the debt, and Shea agrees to the deal and also agrees to help manage the details and boundaries of it. The deal = they get to fuck Mikko when he comes to Nashville.
Mikko and Shea develop a very tight partnership over it, plus they have a huge erotic bond, and their friendship grows, and eventually it becomes emotionally sticky for them. There's a lot of sex in this fic between Mikko and lots of people. Also, the Predators basically come to respect the fuck out of Mikko, and he kind of in on the receiving end of their respect and honor all the time in public.
It's told partly from Mikko's POV and partly from Shea's.
I just keep writing more and more and I love them together so, so much. :)))))))

Date: 2013-10-29 08:18 pm (UTC)I go to Ducks games as often as I can, time and money-wise. I adore them. I went to three of those Detroit games, including game 7, and it was heartbreaking. We definitely are better this year even just insomuch as we understand better about why we were successful last year and where the holes were for us. We actually won a lot more than we should have, and appeared to be better than we were. But we could actually be as good as that record suggested, if we address the holes.
Right now we're injury-plagued, including losing Saku to a head injury a few nights ago. :(((((( We're missing seven starters: Penner, Perrault, Sbisa, Souray, Fasth, S. Koivu and Silfverberg. Lots of AHL players getting a fantastic shot at the NHL right now.

Date: 2013-10-29 09:26 pm (UTC)Heh, that fic sounds interesting. :D I can definitely say I haven't read anything like that before and considering fandom, I mean that as a compliment!
Personally I'm not into incest, but I don't have any real squicks, so it's fine to talk about pretty much anything to me.
I'm so jealous about you getting to go see games! If I ever have the money to go to the States again, I definitely want to go see a game. I went to Chicago the summer when they had just won the cup in 2010 and I was like... what's going on here? Because they had Hawks stuff everywhere. (I knew it was the hockey team, but I wasn't following the NHL back then, so I missed an opportunity to get some Hawks bling. I also went to St. Louis but I only saw the Cardinals arena and nothing hockey related there... :D
Yeah, the 'fancy stats' didn't really hold water for the Ducks last year, but hopefully this year will be better, but that Pacific conference is insane, almost all the teams are doing so well! It will be interesting to see how things will shake up once they start playing against each other properly.
I saw that hit, I really hope he'll be okay. I didn't know the injury bug was that bad, it's even more impressive how well they are playing

Date: 2013-10-29 09:54 pm (UTC)Title: Chemistry (working title)
Author: anna_unfolding
Characters/Pairing(s): Matt Cullen/Devin Setoguchi, Matt Cullen//Devin Setoguchi//Mikael Granlund, Mikko Koivu
Summary: Matt’s out with an injury and Seto can’t seem to score without him. When their captain asks Matt to teach the new center, Granny, how to get Seto to produce, Matt doesn’t know what to say. There’s no way he’s teaching a 21 year old how Seto needs to be fucked. Especially not when Seto hasn’t let Matt in his bed for four weeks.
Length: currently 2200, probably should be about 4k.

Oh my god, those goobers. :D I really like how the rookies seem to be bonding with each other, it's adorable. Also Granlund is super short.
