I still haven't signed up for any classes

I paid the money for the student union and now I'm a student again for one more year. The fee's gone up I think, it was 108€ and I think it was about 90 some years ago. Still can't complain too much as it's the only money I have to pay for a full year at a university. I don't know how American's do it... Well, yes I do, they either get into a lot of dept or their parents pay for them or both. I have student loans now too, I think it's about 3000€ right now and even that freaks me out quite a bit.

I still think it would be cool to work abroad for a few years after I finally manage to graduate (in a few years hopefully) and I've been thinking about Canada lately. I think it would be an interesting place to live in, but that the culture shock wouldn't be a big deal. I went to look at a webpage meant for foreigners thinking about moving to Canada and it seems there are jobs for social workers over there. :) Not that it's a big surprise I think there's a need for them all over.

Anyway... I've now read two of the Dragon Age books and they are sooooo interesting! I love how much new info they give into the world and also how much of it is then used in the games. :D It seems like the new game will take place soon after Asunder. I can't wait to play it!!! Still one year to go though. *pout*

While arilyn9 was visiting I got the third season of Fringe and then watched it in the past few days. I keep thinking about how Olivia is treated in the show as a female character, because now I can't not, especially with the new Star Trek movie being so bad when it comes to female characters. I do think that Olivia is super awesome! She is definitely one of my favourite female characters, but they have done some questionable shit to her and her body over the course of the show. I keep thinking though that would I even care if it had happened to a male character and I think the answer is no. So does that make it better or worse? Also the red haired Olivia is confusing to me, she seems to be all over the place when it comes to her actions and motives. I don't know... Also, I've heard that the fourth season is a mess and I wish I hadn't read that somewhere, because now I'm worried about what they are going to do to this show I like so much. ;___;

I also bought both seasons of Rome, because I only had season 2 for years and now there is no way to just get season one anywhere!! The blu-ray was only 24€ so it's not that bad with 12€ per season... It's been years and years since I watched season one and I'm kind of nervous about watching it again, in case it's not as good as I remember it being. It's not going to ruin it for me, I know that, so I should just watch it.

Fringe is the greatest! I agree, sadly, that the end of the show isn't as good as the middle, but I do still love Olivia a lot. It's difficult because sometimes they're so great at it! The ep where she rescues herself from a gurney before the opening credits is one of my favourite tv things ever. On the other hand, there's a loooot of watching terrible things happen to her, which isn't exactly new ground for tv. And then there's stuff like how she actually has to rehab from injuries, which is an awesome thing given that people on tv usually recover instantly from gunshot wounds, but is also kind of hmmmm when it's suddenly ok to be realistic when it's a woman being injured.

Also I resent having to be grateful for some of this shit, like, ok, I appreciate that every time they shoot strippers or sex workers, they do a lot of close-ups on faces and not on disembodied tits because that's not what tv is usually like, but also maybe have fewer strippers/sex workers on the show if they're not actually going to be real characters?

Yeah, it's so confusing because they do a great job with her usually, but then they do something terrible with her/to her and I'm left there wibbling at the screen.

Weirdly I don't remember any sex workers in the show? O_o Maybe I have blocked them out of my memory...

It's not unenjoyable later. It's just mildly irritating because we've seen how they can be just that little bit better.

There are sex workers in that early ep with the baby that ages and dies in a day? Murdered sex workers too, just for shits and giggles. So that's annoying. But they weren't shot sexily and all the murdering is done while we watch faces being upset, rather than bodies being violated. So it could have been worse.

There's some good fic though, and some of it has alternate endings if you aren't desperately enamoured of the finale. ;)

That is bit of a relief. Did they get cancelled or was it their choice to stop the show after the 4th season? I imagined that it must have gotten cancelled and been ruined because of that.

Oh okay, that does suck and it also sucks that I don't even remember them. I've definitely been desensitized to that trope in tv shows. I've watched too much criminal minds and all the csi shows etc... >_>

That sounds interesting! I'll have to look into it once I finish watching the show. I didn't imagine the show to be one that would generate much fic as there isn't really any slash pairings to be had and those are what keep fandoms/fic going.

(is your icon a reference to the Discworld books and the librarian? If so, that is super awesome :D)

It was cancelled after the 4th season, but they brought it back for half a fifth season. So some of the pacing problems are because of that, where they tried to cram too much into one arc, had to go back to create another arc, and then that one didn't have enough time either.

It was one of the really early ones, where it's still all Monsters of the Week. Plus yeah, it's easy to get desensitized. :/

There isn't a ton of fic, but some of it's great. Quite a lot of Olivia het too, which is nice, especially when it's mostly het involving world-saving rather than domesticity.

Thanks for explaining it to me! For some reason I thought the fourth one was the last. ^_^;

I never read het fic to be honest. To me when it comes to het, the actual canon is enough and I don't feel the need to know more about those relationships, but I would definitely read Fringe gen or I guess het too if the romantic relationship is not the point of the story.

(Pratchett is the best. Which book is your favourite? My favourites tend to be about Death or Vimes, but I also like the newer ones like Going Postal and of course the ones about the witches are awesome... So basically I just love all of them... :D)

It's terribly confusing, for sure.

It's...hmmm...very slashy het? Like, it feels more like slash than het? I don't read a ton of romantic hetfic, but I like Olivia a lot, and I was glad that she gets to be in the fic instead of shunted off in favour of two dudes.

Choosing is too difficult! But probably the Vimes books overall, though I definitely have a soft spot for Moist and Spike. And the Librarian, obviously. :D

Yay! I can try. :D I've basically forgotten everything during the summer but maybe it'll come to me after a few weeks.

Yup. I could have taken something extra but decided against it. I still have 30+ pages to write for my gradu and since I'm hoping to go to Japan next spring I'm also trying to brush up my Japanese skills. And then I've got work 3 days a week (+ it would be nice to have some free time as well) so I don't really have time for any extra courses. I did consides Spanish but learning a new language is alwasy so time consuming. >_

Where the hell can you get them for that cheap? Are they direct flights? But yeah no... I would still need over a 1000€ for the trip and it's not happening. I'll run out of student benefits around Christmas and after that I'm smooching off my mom again. Can't really see a way to get the money. ;__;

Jesus Christ, I'm looking at my financial aid stuff for this year and I'm going to be paying between 4 and 7k, which is pretty decent actually, but wow. ~Finland~ NEAT.

FRINGE IS SUPER COOL. I've been rewatching it the past couple of weeks, and it is just so good. I also want all the Fringe/Mighty Ducks fusion fic.

Yeah, it's super cheap here, the fee is just basically for medical insurance or something, so I can use the health services really cheap... I mean, I guess our universities aren't as "good" as American ones, but think we get a good education here. ^_^

It is really cool. :D There is never enough shows about alternative universes and weird shit going down. \0/
I'm kind of sad that I haven't seen any of the Mighty Ducks movies, or maybe I saw one of them when I was in elementary school and not surprisingly I don't really remember much about it... What kind of fic would it be? I'm super curious now.
