NHL so far (a very random post)

oanjaSo a disclaimer that this is the first time for me to watch any NHL hockey, I'm pretty excited about it tbh. :D
It's kind of annoying that I always end up cheering for the underdog when I watch hockey... I think it's because I'm Finnish and I'm used to my team being the underdog most of the time. :D
Anyway, I was supposed to like the Penguins and the Blackhawks because that's where all the fic is, but I felt a bit meh about both teams after watching two games for each of them. Except Marian Hossa is the boss and I will gladly cheer him on. \0/ Also that one guy Letang or something from the Penguins looks like LeFlamme from Goon, so I will also cheer him on. (they even have similar names)

The Blackhawks were kind of a mess against the Phoenix Coyotes, who were a mess right back, but I ended up cheering for the Coyotes anyway, mostly because their uniforms are awesome and they tried so hard. (I'm such a pro at choosing which teams to support, aren't I? Also they have a Finn playing for them, so as always that's extra awesomeness points right there) And the first Hawks game against LA wasn't that awesome either. I guess I'll wait and see if they can work as a team and not just individual stars who make goals.
But Toews can stay. I like him
Also: This will never stop being funny... Patric Kane being checked by the lineman :DDD
I just don't like that kind of flashy, star oriented hockey much... Again I blame being Finnish for this, because usually we grumble about other teams always having so many stars when it comes to the world championships or the Olympics. xD (I felt kind of vindicated that Crosby and Malkin were pretty invisible in the first two games. /0\ I do like them in fics though... and the same goes for Toews and Kane)
I think just in general I have a lot of unpopular hockey fandom opinions... Like the biggest one is that I like the Flyers. *dodges missiles* Mostly it's because of Claude Giroux and Danny Briere though. They are my hockey otp. <3 But also because they only have one American in their team and I find that hilarious (or at least there was only one playing on Sunday), the fact that their goalie is super bizarre and because I like orange. So there. :D And they have Kimmo Timonen, so extra bonus points for having a Finn playing.
So it was sad to watch them kind of suck in both of their two games so far. Obviously they need Danny back.
I was prepared to like the Bruins just because of Tyler Seguin and his hilariously awesome face, but their whole team was pretty awesome to watch, so I'm glad I chose them.

But the underdog thing came up while I was watching their game against the Winnipeg Jets. Because by the third period I was cheering them on. >_> Well I guess I should have one Canadian team to keep my eye on. (I feel like I'm going to regret that, but maybe they'll have a better season this year...)
Maybe I will warm up the the Oilers too, because there is a lot of fic about them, but I just don't really get the appeal of Eberle & Hall, facewise...
NY Rangers were pretty faily so far, so I'm glad I don't have to cheer them on. >_>
But then there is the Minnesota Wild, which is my team! I shall stick by them even if they fail horribly... They have three Finns playing for them, for extra special points times three and their uniforms are excellent imo
Mikko Koivu is the captain (like he should be... He's always the captain everywhere... ever...)
Niklas Backstom (I think that is Bäckstöm in Finnish? Maybe) who looks a bit shaky in the goal, but I'm hoping he'll get better (also woah that was a huge photo)
And of course Mikael Granlund (they call him Finnish baby Jesus in one blog... which is kind of terrifying for numerous reasons)
Random memes popping up on google image searches are the best:
I always feel terrible second hand embarrassment when they speak English but then I try to comfort myself with the fact that some of the Russians didn't/don't speak any English.
Anyway. The team had two wins to start with! \0/ Granlund didn't make a fool out of himself and Koivu was as solid as he always is.
Koivu's linemates are also excellent, especially Zach Parise, who has an excellent face (I use excellent too much...)
He used to be captain in New Jersey, so I hope he's not sad at just having the A now. Also he's from Minnesota and so now he's playing at home. (That's cute. Also true about that other new guy they got, the defense man... Argh my memory is so bad. Suter? [yes! I remembered that right])
Dany Heatley on the other hand looks super scary because of his eyes. Luckily you can't see that while he plays hockey, and he's awesome on the ice. Still super scary and it's hard to concentrate to what he's saying in interviews because I keep looking at his eyes. (Now that I've read his wikipedia page I'm not less scared although I still don't know why his eyes are like that... The car crash maybe?)
I shall get to know the other guys in the team later. (I already know many of them have hilarious names, that are pretty easy to remember, still I'm learning to connect numbers and players... I'll get there)
Bonus mention to the Anaheim Ducks for having two Finns playing for them and having a great first game. Teemu Selänne is a hero. :D
Huh... This got longer than expected. Well anyway, the point is: Hockey is awesome! Hee~ yes I like him a lot, I love the way he's written in fic and he seems like an interesting guy in real life too (in that special Canadian way!) I would read fic about him with other people too, but yes Tazer/Kaner is great, their dynamics are really interesting to read about.
Also this is random but I went through your journal for a bit and I love that Dragon Age meme... I might have to do it myself. Also I'm glad someone agrees with me in that Merrill is super annoying! On the first play through I tried to help her with her stuff because I wanted to have high approval with everyone, but Argh! The way she won't listen to anyone trying to talk sense into her. *endless rant*

Kaner/Tazer is my OTP in this fandom. I also ship Sidney/Geno, Eric Staal/Jeff Skinner and a bit of Mike Richards/Jeff Carter (they have the best reunion story, it's like a fic IRL)
Ugh I seriously dislike Merrill. I do her quests for experience points but in such a way that allows me to help her as little as possible, or not at all (see if she ever gets the arulin'holm). I like the approval system in DA2, because it doesn't give you disapproval as such, just rivalry points, and they're still loyal to you if it's high enough either way. I sometimes aim for rivalry especially - I ship my Hawke with Anders like burning but I prefer the rivalmance to the friendmance, more feels ;)

I ship all of those too, except for Staal/Skinner and yeah Carts/Richie is ridiculous, their real story would fit into any romance novel as is, or like you said, any fic. It's great <3 Like I said in this entry my otp is Claude Giroux/Danny Briere, because who can resist their married French-Canadian awesomeness? If Carts/Richie is the ust/pining from afar fic while they are apart then Claude/Danny is full on kidfic. :D And well, I have a huge soft stop for kidfic...
Haha~ yeah, I didn't really get the difference between the two systems on my first play through but since then I've been doing my level best to ruin all her plans. ^_^; Ooh I've never tried that, I just want to try and make Anders happy even though I now know what he's up to, but I should try the rivalries out definitely. (Right now I'm playing a mage and decided it would be an awesome idea to romance Fenris... It's been interesting :'D)

In DA:O I'm always a rogue because I have a compulsive need to open all the chests but I find Leliana annoying (and much as I love Zevran, he's pretty useless in that department). And also because I won't go anywhere without my babies Alistair and Morrigan, so I got the warrior and the battle mage covered. I usually take Wynne, too, for the healing.
Kidfic! There's an awesome Kaner/Tazer AU where Kaner is Jonny's son's kindergarten teacher, have you read that?

In origins I've only played it through with a warrior (I usually always play a tank first because it's easier...) and I remember that chest rage... It took a long time to level Zevran up high enough so he could open things. I tended to keep him with me always because I was romancing him and because Leliana was kind of annoying. I was super sad when I realized I wouldn't be able to romance Alistair as a male character, so I just pined from afar, until I got over him and got together with Zevran :D I also usually took Wynne and sometimes Morrigan depending on things.
I just started a new game with a Dalish elf and I was super surprised to see Merrill there! And not in a good way. :D
That fic sounds kind of familiar but I'm not sure. If you have the link handy I'd love to give it a go. :)

Date: 2013-01-22 08:22 pm (UTC)My headcanon Warden is female (Hawke is male, for a change and for a gay romance with Anders :P) and I usually end up marrying Alistair. There are mods you can install that will allow you to gay romance Ali, but if I play with a male Warden I tend to romance Zevran - I like this storyline better than romance with Alistair.
ETA: Also, in theory you can go back everywhere to open the chests, but there's a lot of them in the Tower of Ishal at Ostagar where you don't have a rogue companion and 1) it's all lost after the quest is finished; 2) it makes for a good loot that gives you a decent startup amount of cash if you sell it in Lothering.
