Five things meme part 2

So when mom talked me into going to the summer cabin today I thought it would be fine, I mean the sun was shining (for once...) it was warm etc. But guess what happens right after we get there? Rain of course. Rain seems to happen all the time this summer. I think they said in the news or somewhere that this summer has been the rainiest in 50 years. Climate change guys... >_>

But anyway, while it was raining I tried to pick things to do the five things lists about and thought I'd do one about my favourite female tv show characters. And it was hard... People keep saying that if you don't like the female characters in TV shows/movies etc it's a sign that you are a misogynist or like hate the women for cockblocking your slash... But I wouldn't want to think that about myself. Can't some of the blame go for the industry too for making female characters unappealing to me? Urgh anyway I managed to come up with five characters and eventually I actually had to cut some people from the list, so hopefully that means I'm not a total misogynist or what ever.

1) Sam (Samantha) Carter
Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis (for a bit)

I started watching Stargate back when people still had VCR players so I think I was about 12 or something and she was awesome. She's a soldier and an astrophysicist. She could kick ass as well as be the smart one. Usually the show was good with her character, well at least I can't remember horrible stuff right off the bat... except when they kept trying to push her and Jack together. (urgh it just seemed so inappropriate to me) anyway I still haven't seen the end of this show, because it has a bazillion seasons so maybe the ruined her character somehow in the end, but still she's still on my list of awesome chicks.


2) Olivia Dunham
Fringe

Disclaimer here: that I've only seen two season so I don't know how she'll end up, but in the first two seasons she was awesome. Olivia is a FBI agent who deals with freaky stuff. But even though she can be super though and kick ass it doesn't mean she isn't human, you know? I really liked this balance they struck with her character. But yeah she was super interesting to me and I plan to watch more of this show. It's just that I've stuck to paying for the DVD's for once and the newer seasons are too expensive for me right now.

3) Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars

I have actually watched all the three seasons so I can say that they did a pretty good job with her. I mean there were problematic things... But as a character I think she was three dimentional, witty, super smart and awesome. I did think her taste in boyfriends sucked a lot and I always kind of hoped she'd end up with Wallace but let's ignore those parts.




4) Lorelai Gilmore
Gilmore Girls

There was a time when I was in Junior High when I wished I was either Rory or Lorelai. It mostly depended on the episode which one of them I wanted to be more. I haven't seen all of the seasons... (why is this a theme here?) but I think she eventually actually gets her happy ending with Luke? So that's all I wanted for like four? Five seasons? whereas Rory makes bad life decisions? and generally has terrible taste in boyfriends. >_> So I'd definitely want to be Lorelai now. (see I can like chicks who don't kick alien ass!)


 
5) Kima Greggs
The Wire

All the characters on The Wire were three dimensional and interesting but Kima was made of awesome sauce. (well except that part where she cheated on her wife and left her and the baby? [I think? I've obviously tried to forget about that part]) She didn't take any bullshit but she wasn't an asshole either. 
 



Conclusions:

- I have some kind of a fetish for people who work in law enforcement?
- I watch too many cop shows?
- I like blond petite women?
- I can't seem to watch shows 'till the end?

(I could have added all the female characters from Firefly on this list, because they were all awesome in their own ways and I also cut Abby from NCIS even though I find her adorable)

Heee, this was really interesting! And I agree with you on the point that it's at least partly the fault of the industry. I tried to think about the same list as how I'd have it but I think I'll have way too many candidates /o\ We'll see. Is it ok if I steal the idea, at some point maybe, perhaps?

I should really try and watch well, most of these series here. And are you sure about that happy ending with Luke? ó_ò Gosh I hope so...

I think this was on the list we made for you when I was visiting, so it's more like I stole the idea from you. :D I think we should just agree to use each others ideas indiscriminately? =D

They are good shows, I'd recommend them. =) I think they do get married and move together... I'm not sure if they break up or something though... because yeah I haven't watched it /0\
