where I have fic ideas

So I bet this has been done already, but anyway. I want an One Direction Hogwarts AU. The problem is that I want all of it, like all seven years, so I could read about the boys growing up and learning magic and going on adventures and and. \0/ All of the Hogwarts AU.



This is how I see them being sorted. (I'm sure others will disagree buuuuut)

Liam would be a Hufflepuff because (and here I quote the Pottermore welcome letter):

First of all, let’s deal with a perennial myth about the place, which is that we’re the least clever house. WRONG. Hufflepuff is certainly the least boastful house, but we’ve produced just as many brilliant witches and wizards as any other.

Hufflepuffs are trustworthy and loyal. We don’t shoot our mouths off, but cross us at your peril; like our emblem, the badger, we will protect ourselves, our friends and our families against all-comers. Nobody intimidates us.

Niall would be Gryffindor (I know he said he'd be a Slytherin, but I just don't see it)

The Pottermore letter is super faily imo but I think we all know what kind of people generally fit into Gryffindor and I think Niall would feel very at home there. (also I'll admit that he reminds me a little of both Ron and Seamus)

Zayn would be in Ravenclaw

In my mind Zayn would be muggle born and super intimidated by everything, quiet and shy, because the wouldn't know anyone. And he would just sit by himself a lot and doodle in his notebooks. And then later he would become really fascinated by the moving paintings and would dedicate a lot of time trying to learn how to do them. Even though it's complicated magic and beyond a first year student.

Another cool thing about Ravenclaw is that our people are the most individual – some might even call them eccentrics.

This is not really relevant here but I find the mental image is super cute

Some first-years are scared by having to answer the eagle’s questions, but don’t worry. Ravenclaws learn quickly, and you’ll soon enjoy the challenges the door sets. It’s not unusual to find twenty people standing outside the common room door, all trying to work out the answer to the day’s question together. This is a great way to meet fellow Ravenclaws from other years, and to learn from them – although it is a bit annoying if you’ve forgotten your Quidditch robes and need to get in and out in a hurry. In fact, I’d advise you to triple-check your bag for everything you need before leaving Ravenclaw Tower.

So I think this is how he'd meet Liam. After he get's locked out of the tower and nobody else is there to help him solve the riddle he just gives up and sits at the stairs. Liam, who would have gotten lost on his way back to the Hufflepuff dorms (this would happen during the first week) would see him and they would talk and Zayn would admit to what had happened and then Liam would of course offer to help him. They would try the riddle again but to no avail and then finally Liam would offer to take Zayn into his own common room, although he'd be a bit worried because you aren't supposed to let people from other houses in. And then they would end up sleeping the night at the Hufflepuff common room on one of the blush couches under a big shawl or something. After that they would become fast friends.

Louis and Harry would be in Slytherin together.

Harry would come from a line of pureblood withces and wizards and his stepdad would hold a high office in the ministry. Louis' mom would be a muggle but his dad a wizard. And Louis is of course older than Harry but they would just hit it of right after the sorting when Harry would by chance sit next to Louis at the Great Hall. Obviously they would get into all kinds of trouble and some would compare them to the Weasley twins, although not in the general vicinity of Slytherins, who don't find the comparison flattering. Louis would be in the Quiddich team, because he's pretty competative and because he thinks he looks brilliant in the uniform. (Harry agrees)

But that’s enough about what we’re not. Let’s talk about what we are, which is the coolest and edgiest house in this school. We play to win, because we care about the honour and traditions of Slytherin.

 It can be fun, having a reputation for walking on the wild side. Chuck out a few hints that you’ve got access to a whole library of curses, and see whether anyone feels like nicking your pencil case.

For instance, we Slytherins look after our own – which is more than you can say for Ravenclaw. Apart from being the biggest bunch of swots you ever met, Ravenclaws are famous for clambering over each other to get good marks, whereas we Slytherins are brothers.

and then just some general ideas about what I'd like to happen

Liam and Niall would meet one evening when Niall is coming out of the kitchens with arms loaded with food and somehow Liam would end up helping him carry his hoard back to the Gryffindor common room. They would bond over Quiddich and creampuffs and after that Niall would join Liam and Zayn more often than not.

Over time Liam would join the Hufflepuff Quiddich team and later become a prefect and the the team captain (and most likely head boy as well) Louis and Liam would banter before their teams matches and Louis would decide that Liam was okay, for a Hufflepuff. Harry doesn't really care that much about house rivalries so the whole band would eventually come together. Niall and Louis would sometimes bicker about which of their houses is the best at Quiddich but usually Liam would interfere before anything would come off it. Zayn would be a bit wary of the new boys at first but then just accept them in like the others. And Harry would help him with his animation magic project because Harry would secretry be super smart and get all O's in his Owls (O is the best one, right?)

And then there would be shenanigans and adventures and, and boy piles full of cuddling and budding romances and all that good stuff?

Oh and because I'm a total dork I also thought about what their wands would be made of:

Louis' would be

Dogwood

Dogwood is one of my own personal favourites, and I have found that matching a dogwood wand with its ideal owner is always entertaining. Dogwood wands are quirky and mischievous; they have playful natures and insist upon partners who can provide them with scope for excitement and fun. It would be quite wrong, however, to deduce from this that dogwood wands are not capable of serious magic when called upon to do so; they have been known to perform outstanding spells under difficult conditions, and when paired with a suitably clever and ingenious witch or wizard, can produce dazzling enchantments. An interesting foible of many dogwood wands is that they refuse to perform non-verbal spells and they are often rather noisy.

Harry's would be:

Sycamore

The sycamore makes a questing wand, eager for new experience and losing brilliance if engaged in mundane activities. It is a quirk of these handsome wands that they may combust if allowed to become ‘bored,’ and many witches and wizards, settling down into middle age, are disconcerted to find their trusty wand bursting into flame in their hand as they ask it, one more time, to fetch their slippers. As may be deduced, the sycamore’s ideal owner is curious, vital and adventurous, and when paired with such an owner, it demonstrates a capacity to learn and adapt that earns it a rightful place among the world's most highly-prized wand woods.

Niall's would be:

Pear

This golden-toned wood produces wands of splendid magical powers, which give of their best in the hands of the warm-hearted, the generous and the wise. Possessors of pear wands are, in my experience, usually popular and well-respected. I do not know of a single instance where a pear wand has been discovered in the possession of a Dark witch or wizard. Pear wands are among the most resilient, and I have often observed that they may still present a remarkable appearance of newness, even after many years of hard use.

Zayn's would be:

Pine

The straight-grained pine wand always chooses an independent, individual master who may be perceived as a loner, intriguing and perhaps mysterious. Pine wands enjoy being used creatively, and unlike some others, will adapt unprotestingly to new methods and spells. Many wandmakers insist that pine wands are able to detect, and perform best for, owners who are destined for long lives, and I can confirm this in as much as I have never personally known the master of a pine wand to die young. The pine wand is one of those that is most sensitive to non-verbal magic.

Liam's would be:

Poplar

“If you seek integrity, search first among the poplars,” was a great maxim of my grandfather, Gerbold Ollivander, and my own experience of poplar wands and their owners tallies exactly with his. Here is a wand to rely upon, of consistency, strength and uniform power, always happiest when working with a witch or wizard of clear moral vision. There is a tired old joke among lesser wandmakers that no poplar wand has ever chosen a politician, but here they show their lamentable ignorance: two of the Ministry’s most accomplished Ministers for Magic, Eldritch Diggory and Evangeline Orpington, were the possessors of fine, Ollivander-made poplar wands.

Time and again I'm in awe over your brain :o Seriously, all this would be beyond awesome *_* Have you considered maybe making it into a verse? That way you could kind of make individual fics about their adventures that link together instead of one massive fic? And is all of this happening after Harry Potter defeated Voldemort?

And gah, those wand types were kind of ingineous :D But I'm still quite puzzled over why I got a dogwood wand o.O

Hee~ I'm glad you liked the idea. It's just so much fun imagining all this stuff. (also an excuse to write HP fic) And yeah that would make sense, I was thinking about how writing just snippets would make this whole thing manageable and probably save my sanity. =D

And yeah it would be set in real time, so they would be first year students in 2004 (if most of them are born in 1993, right?) so that would be six years after the battle of Hogwarts (if that was in 1998, like I've heard)

It was a lot of fun picking them out. \0/ I'm such a nerd though xD

Ahhh this is the greatest! :DD I totally agree with the houses you sorted them into! And I'm having all the Zayn feelings tonight, so the bit about him being muggle born, and wanting to learn the advanced magic to animate paintings is especially precious.

Oh I hadn't seen that before (I'm not the biggest Larry shipper) but it was very cute. I'm hoping the fandom can toterate a few more Hogwarts AU's though because I think this fic idea is eating my brain right now and I need to get it out. =)

I don't think it's possible for any fandom to have enough Hogwarts AUs, let's be real. xD So, y'know, feel free to write it... and by that I mean you should DEFINITELY WRITE IT because your head canon so far is perfect. And people never get sick of Hogwarts AUs, so.... \o/

That's been my philosophy at least. Like you said, a lot of people like Hogwarts AU's and I'm definitely one of them. It's even kind of comforting that you can pretty much bet money on every fandom having a few of them floating around somewhere. ^_^ And it's always fun to see how people would sort characters from different movies/shows/bands into the houses.
