So I think this thing with livejournal is getting ridiculous. I mean seriously, people are leaving the site because the comment option looks different? Ah hah haa~ xD I think these days people just love to hate LJ...

Also now that this is already a ranty post I'll add that Tumblr is super annoying atm, stop posting all that Christmas crap already! Argh... I can't imagine how annoying that must be for people who don't celebrate the holiday.

well there are more issues than how a comment option looks like. some might use it as a handy excuse to hate lj, but most are actually mad for a reason. I've talked to a whole bunch of people and they all could present pretty damn valid arguments to back up their choice.

Yeah I've seen a lot of people ranting about this latest LJ scandal as well, but I just don't see the point. *shrug* I mean obviously everyone is entitled to move to which ever site they find the most helpful to them, I'm not saying that, but I'm just personally kind of fed up with all the drama.

i'm just gonna put in my two cents because i can't help it XD privately i don't really give a damn about the new comment pages (i use customised ones in my own journals), but i'm a mod on a kinkmeme. the kinkmeme has become *impossible* to navigate now as the subject lines no longer exist... i've moved the meme to dreamwidth just in case, though i haven't yet announced the move as the move itself will depend on a lot of things... it's backed up though. i've put customised comment pages onto the kinkmeme in LJ but customised comment pages are glitchy and don't work nowhere as well as the old default layout did, especially when it comes to really long comment threads where the comments get squashed and unreadable. i'm hoping the subject lines will at least be back (though it's looking less and less likely) because those are really vital for navigating and organising stuff. sigh. v.v

the main issue though, is not so much the change itself but the way LJ staff is treating its users that's making everyone's piss boil.

Yeah I get why that would be super inconvenient, and I hope the subject line would come back. (although I've never been able to read anything on a kink meme without doing the rage!face myself. I just hate reading fic in comment format, but like I said, I get why that would piss a lot of people off.)

I think the staff could/should have asked the users beforehand what kind of updates they would have wanted and which parts they thought were the most important before they did this major overhaul... So I dunno. =/

I have a DW I got it after the last mass immigration happened but never started using it. I just personally find it really annoying to use (the whole circle thing, or what ever it's called and also it's just ugly... I dunno, I guess I'm one of the only people who still likes LJ)

haha well i don't like the way the default comment pages look either (which is why i use customised ones for myself) but for organisational purposes etc i had to stick with the default ones for the kinkmeme. also because when i polled it, 94% wanted the default pages and not customised ones, so... *shrugs*

yeah. there's a lot of issues there and i've been following the update posts and comments and every now and then i've seen posts cropping up detailing what exactly is wrong blah blah, just to keep myself updated and in the know. i'll still stick with LJ. i do have a DW but i don't use it much because...well, it's on LJ shit happens. i'll probably never make a move to DW permanently, unless everything else also moves to DW in which case i'll follow. there's just no point in huddling alone on DW, you know? xD

Yes, people can move their journals to DW but like you said, most fandoms still live on LJ so it seems pretty pointless to me. Using DW for personal journals etc is of course fine, as is crossposting. It's good that people have options. ^_^

This happens once a year, it seems. Most of the people who leave(some of them repeat ditchers)come back within a month or most of the time within a week. It's too hard to convince your whole fandom community or circle of friends to move.

The comment changes were a little annoying at first, but I'll get used to it, just like I get used to everything else. Nothing is ever going to be static and unchanging and I really don't think anyone wants it to be; they just think they do.

The really annoying riot for me was the free users all bitching about ads on their pages. I don't see how anyone getting a free service has room to complain, but they do it all the time. I'm like you. Don't like it? Fine, don't use it. They always come back though.

I think you are so right! This has been going on for a long time. people threatening to leave but it hasn't happened yet. =D Like you said, it would take a lot for the whole fandom to just leave so usually people still end up using LJ because their interests are still here (although tumblr has lured away a lot of people...)

Right, it takes some time, but people get used to new things pretty quickly.

Agreed, if you don't like adds, get a paid account (that's what I did...)

What really got to me about the advert thing was that you could even choose what type of ads you displayed. They didn't randomly make you endorse products or services that you morally objected to. I knew more than a handful of free users who were seriously full of self-rightous outrage. Rarwrawrawrimmawritealettertomycongressman pissed off. I just laughed. Fine, you do that if it makes you feel better. I'm sure your congressman cares about your free slash blog.

It may be only me, but I find tumblr very annoying. It sucks a ton of bandwidth and it seems to have encouraged a whole slew of people to plagarize fic and whatever else they can get to. I have an account but I tend to stay away from it, unless I get linked to a pic or meme.

Happy late holidays, btw. My Christmas is coming to a close here, after a day at work.

I didn't know they let you do that, seems pretty okay way to go about the whole thing. But seriously, I can't believe people would get so bent out of shape about the adds. xD

I only use it for the pretty, i.e. gifs and photos of my favourite celebrities. I get all grumpy when people use it to post fic, I think it's the worst site for reading stories, mostly because people have atrocious layouts but also because some people think it's an awesome idea to post fic without cutting it. D= I mostly dislike it because it's so superficial, like you can never get to know people on that site, talk to them etc. It's just a huge picspam imo.

Same to you! You didn't get any time off from work? That doesn't seem fair. I hope they at least paid you extra for working on a Holiday...

Oh, I'm a salaried manager(who somehow ends up being the only manager working most holidays in the entire building) and a chef at a retirement community. We're open 365 days a year and people always need to eat. I don't mind working the holiday all that much since before I was a chef, I worked at a medical center and worked overnights, week-ends, holiays or whenever. I don't know what it is with me and choosing places that never close. I will get to take another day off since I worked the holiday, just no extra pay.

So it's not common in America to get paid extra if you have to work nights/weekends/Holidays? Seems really unfair.

Here in Finland you get +20% when you work on Saturdays, +50% if you work nights and +100% if you work on Sundays/public holidays. So you would get twice as much pay on holidays. But it's also possible to get it in days off so maybe it's not so different.

Oh, people who are paid an hourly wage usually get time and a half or double time on holidays. I am salaried, which means I get a yearly wage. It is divided equally across my paychecks. This is common for managers and supervisors. This way if someone is sick or there is something important going on, you work the extra hours, but you do not get any extra pay. In return, salaried people usually have better benefits. My health insurance is cheaper than it is for my hourly employees and it covers more and I also build up sick and vacation time at a faster rate. If I do work a holiday, I take another day off, in return. It can be good or bad depending on the situation anty given day. There are times that I work a 50-60 hour week and don't see any extra money, but it is my kitchen and I am responsible for it and my employees.

There are some places of employment here that pay a higher rate for week-ends or night. When I worked at the hospital, nurses got shift scaled pay depending on when they worked, but clerical workers did not.
