Okay, finally Edinburgh photos.
On the first day we just took our stuff to the hostel and started walking. messy_kisses had a plan... So we saw the Scottish Parliament building, which to me looked really out of place among the old houses buuut.

That was not where we were going however, because messy_kisses wanted us to climb that hill (Arthur's Seat) and dude it's a big hill! (250m) and I was not wearing hiking shoes...

But who let's something like that stop them? Not us... And it was sooooo windy it was insane.

Oh and here you can see the palace where the queen lives when she comes for a visit. (right corner down)

Back to our hiking adventure... There was this cool ruin of a chapel and it was right on the edge of a big drop. So what do I do? Go walk around the wall and peak in from the doorway and demand messy_kisses take a photo of me. Then almost get blown away by a violent gush of wind. But as we all know now I survived, so \0/

It was super pretty, even if my shoes were chafing and gave me blisters

Some of the hillsides were covered in this bush (the yellow is flowers)

Finally we made it to the top, although I was super tired by then. The whole hill used to be a volcano millions of years ago so that's why to rock looks like that. (also it's a trick of the light)

You can sort of see how windy it was from this photo... But yeah, the wind tried to steal my scarf more than once and kept banging me on the leg with my own purse (yeah I had my purse with me! See how I was not prepared to go exercising! I blame messy_kisses)

On the way back. (you can see it wasn't a very secure pathway. Once we had to pass this dude going up and I was on the side of the drop and had this horrible idea "what if he shoves me right now?" because I think I would have died if I had fallen from the edge.

End of hiking photos. ^_^
Next morning we went and had breakfast at Marks & Spencer's coffee shop. My tea smelled like bacon... I did not approve

Then just random shots from around the town.

That's rain not snow, but I'm kind of proud of myself that I got the rain in a photo. I think it's all thanks to the sun shining at a certain angle.

Um we ate at KFC and I got this corn thing with my meal! \0/ I've never had corn like this before so it deserved a photo... xD

Mandatory castle visit

Mandatory wait period for tickets... (14£)

This was some kind of a waiting room to see the king/queen

Then we climbed to this other hill (not nearly as hard as the first one, that you can see on the background) The tower thing is a monument to Nelson

Still you could see pretty far from there. (I like how you can totally tell, it's pouring down rain over that one spot)

heh~ I like how that old grave yard looks with those new apartment buildings

A shot from our hostel room... It had five bunkbeds and half the people seemed to actually LIVE there, which was weird but it was super cheap so I'm not going to complain. ^_^

More random photos from the old town

The coffee shop where Rowling wrote some of the first HP book. =D

We ate at this pub and I had haggis with some root vegetables. At the time it tasted fine but now every time I think about it, it makes me want to throw up a bit... =/

I'm ending this with a post of the castle so I don't have to look at the haggis dish... But yeah I loved Edinburgh so much! It was so worth the repeat visit and I still want to go back and maybe live there for a year or two. \0/

the end...

Date: 2011-06-01 01:28 pm (UTC)I had to reread the part about haggis because, really? What did it taste like? Did you like the corn that came with your KFC dish? It looked good ^^ And I'm still left wondering how an earth could tea smell like bacon? :D
I'm glad you had a nice trip ^_^

Date: 2011-06-01 04:11 pm (UTC)Um, it tasted like nothing really... mostly I tasted the potato and (lanttu ehkä) and the cream sauce. So I dunno really why it's giving me yuck feeling now. xD Yeah the corn was good, and interesting to eat. ^_^; I don't know about the tea, because Sini didn't smell the same thing. x'D
