So I'm trying to study for my exam on Criminology (the course is for Sociology) and I came across this interesting proposition, that states:
"During wartime the rate of homicides goes up and... in countries where the death penalty is used the rate of homicides is higher than in countries where it is not used. So we can assume that when a country legitimizes killing (in some form) the respect and/or value of human life is reduced in general."
I translated this from Finnish so if it doesn't make sense it's my fault.
¤ I think this can be applied to smaller communities than countries as well. Like gangs of different types of Mafia organizations, so like all organized crime in general. Inside these communities the taking of lives is an accepted way of dealing with conflict.
¤ I looked at some statistics about murder rates by country and then at countries where the death penalty is used and it's not quite as simple as that of course. For instance the country that has the most murders (Colombia) doesn't have the death penalty.
¤ BUT! This is where my addition comes in. I'm not an expert on Colombia, but from what I've heard they have big problems with drug cartels aka organized crime ---> who are okay with killing people, so we still have a society inside Colombia that has legitimized killing even if it's not sanctioned by the government.

And wow... can I ramble or what? xD

Then I will post my wordcout updates just cause I'm pretty proud of myself. Especially 'cause I haven't really written anything in like four years!
My new BBB story that I just started on the 14th of February. I kind of adore this one because it's so much fun! \0/ And because it's alternative history set in the Victorian era.

This is the original BBB story, which is kind of more serious (well for me anyway) and set in modern times. I like this one too, but now the new story has kind of taken over. Well hopefully I will have time to finish both of them. ^_^

The national championships for ice sculpture making (wtf is it supposed to be called anyway...) are held right here this year. I'm going to go take a look tomorrow when they have all finished. I hope they are cool, 'cause we had them in my hometown like 5 years ago or something and there was this awesome sculpture of a T-Rex skeleton. I had a photo of it but maybe it's on my old computer. The point is they can be awesome. =D

Oh that sounds really interesting. And brings to mind something that happened a couple of years ago after the school shootings. I was studying at Seinäjoki at the time and we held a silent moment to honour the dead.(? not sure what it would be called in english) and after we went back to class a couple of students who had come to school late and had not participated asked what was going on and why? Both of them were of African origin although I don't remember from which parts. And the teacher explained it to them and they had heard about the shootings and deaths but their only reaction was: "So what? o.O People die all the time due to shootings why is it such a big deal?" It kind of shocked most of the other people there. It's common thing to them when to us it's kind of really far from our normal life, the violent death. I will probably always remember that as a concrete moment when different views came to light.
Sorry for the rambling and possibly not making much sense but, yeah ^^;

I'm really happu that both of the fics are going forwards \o/ Really looking forward to reading them whole too :)

Oooh ice sculptures! Ideapark would have Scandinavian Hunks performing tomorrow :D I think Icesculptures would probably win :')

Also, your new layout looks really pretty!

That is very interesting! I hate to make assumptions about their country of origin, but many African countries still have really unlawful societies, because if civil wars or other internal conflicts, where violence really is everyday occurrence and both the government (if there is a functional one) and the un-official forms of governing (like militias etc) would all most likely use even deadly force regularly. And people do become desensitized to violence, I mean they must if they want to remain sane in an environment like that where one can get killed any day just for having bad luck. Um... and yeah now I got kind of carried away. ^^

Me too~ And seriously thanks for being patient with me and reading it even though it's not ready. =) *hug*

I think they would win too. x) I have these two cousins who love the Hunks, like seriously love them. I asked this cousin how many times she's seen them perform and it was over 20!!!! And they have those posters on their walls... Kind of creeps me out. =P

Yes, that is what we came to think too. But it's a thing that at least I very rarely come to think of when reading about/meating/hearing about people who move here from other coutries, all the things that they might have had to see in their old home. Arjen islam. Somalinaisten elämää Suomessa. was also a book that really made me think about this same subject.

It's not a problem in any way ^_^ I like reading them~

Muscless! \o/ And yeah not really my kind of thing either :D
