oanja: (Bleach: Rukia is not amused)
[personal profile] oanja
Saw Harry Potter today and thought Ron's shoulders were very marvellous. Can't really be bothered to say much more about it, except that I do not approve of these movies obviously shipping Harry/Hermione...

I ate a really questionable cheezy omelette for dinner and then my flatmate wanted to make us tea. Now I don't feel so stellar... =/

Then a meme I stole from sunsetmog. See if you can guess the name of the book and/or the author from the summary. (the summaries are from TV tropes)

Edited this to add the titles of the books nobody guessed.

1) The Abhorsen Trilogy: Extraordinarily Empowered Girls kill zombies with bells.

2) Across the Nightingale Floor: A Japanese teen must assassinate a warlord to prevent his girlfriend from marrying his adopted father.

3) All American Girl: Ordinary girl saves the president then falls in love with his son.

4) American Gods: A man is let out of prison and is hired as chauffeur and bodyguard to a weird man who's conducting a secret war against another bunch of other weird people. The story is occasionally interrupted for history lessons or stories that are almost completely unrelated.

5) Animal Farm: Talking animals re-enact the history of the Soviet Union. Including parts that hadn't happened — yet.

6)Animorphs:  Kids fight slugs by turning into animals.

7) Artemis Fowl: He's a Teen Genius Villain Protagonist. She's a tough cop into social experimentation. They Fight Crime.

8) Witches Abroad: An old lady and her co-workers go on a road trip, unravel fractured fairy tales, and try to stop the old lady's long-lost sister from giving a princess a Happy Ending.

9) Dune:  Boy named after a mouse helps locals improve their drug-filled sandpit, despite unfriendly wildlife. The government disapproves. Also, Cinnamon lets you see into the future.

10) Ender's Game: Laser tag is Serious Business, Real Time Strategy games even more so.

11) Generation Kill: A reporter rides in a jeep with a severely dysfunctional family to chronicle their adventurous road-trip. Oh, and ambushes.

12) Good Omens: A baby is switched at birth, which causes great problems later on. Meanwhile, a cynic with a fondness for antique cars, a rare book dealer, a Granola Girl, a man who breaks things, one of the last witch-hunters in Britain and the witch-hunter's landlady attempt to prevent four rather sinister bikers from causing The End Of The World As We Know It.

13) His Dark Materials: Some kids go through worlds, kill God accidentally and discover they don't need Him in first place. And there's loads and loads of talking animals! Technically speaking.

14) Keys to the Kingdom: Asthmatic 12 year old almost dies and is randomly selected to be the Lord of the Universe by part of a sentient legal document.

15) The Moon is a Harsh Mistress: Malcontents vent their frustration by throwing rocks at the people in charge.

16)Slaughterhouse Five: Young man fights in the Second World War, goes home, gets married, is abducted by aliens, goes home, dies. Not necessarily in that order.

17) Use of Weapons: An advanced alien civilization makes inaccurate predictions about the military prowess of an identity thief who turned his cousin into a chair.

18) The Wheel of Time series: Some farm kids discover that they are main characters, and that they have to stop Satan and his crones before one of them goes mad and destroys the world for them.

19) So You Want to Be a Wizard: Nerdy girl saves the world with a stolen library book after Satan turns off the sun.

20) The Dark Tower: Guy who looks like Clint Eastwood hikes to the center of the universe because he feels like it.

You got all three right.

And I was so happy someone knew Animorphs! \0/ Because I was so sure I was the only one who had actually read them... (I have to admit the series was one of my favourites when I was in Middle school)

(also your icon is all kinds of awesome)

The fact that the summary was based on this: http://www.theyfightcrime.org/ made me lol and I had to pick it for the list. Also because Artemis Fowl is awesome. ^^ (the bestest kind-of-sort-of antihero ever)

Oh did you like the Potter otherwise? When I saw a mention about the scene between Harry and Hermione I was kind of dissappointed... But I'll be seeing it on friday so~

I'm so crappy at these :D They are funny when I Know them but I rarely get it ^^;

But lets try a couple:
6. Animorphis? Has to be :D It forever bugs me that I never read the ending to that one…
11. Probably not but sounds a little like Pelkoa ja inhoa Las Vegasissa. Paitsi ettei siinä mitään perhettä ollut. kai.

Btw. Hanna vastasi että se voi kyllä jäsjestää sen miitin. Lisää tietoa on siellä miun laittamassani ooc entryssä ^^

It was kind of 'meh' for me, you know it wasn't bad but I found myself thinking 'isn't it about time this ended' while watching, so it didn't really grip me either. And yeaaah that scene was kind of O_o for me, and also 'do not want' ^^

Me too, also always when I try to guess these kinds of meme's all the ones I would have known have already been guessed. ^^

Yeah 6 is animorphs! Yay, I didn't remember that you had read these too. =D And actually I never read the last book(s) either, hmm... I wonder if they ever won against the aliens or not.

11 is not Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but a good guess anyway.

Ohhoo, cool. I shall go read that again then. =)

Ah I know what you mean D: Happens to me quite often. I'm not really looking forward tot hat scene either, I've never really been a Hermione/Harry shipper :/

I've been wondering the same thing for a Long time! The hawk boy (Tobias?) was my favorite ^^ I think the problem for me was that the books came out So Slowly. I've always been impatient like that :p

Thought so. But I wouldn't have been so surprised if there actually Had been a family somewhere in there. It was kind of confusing :D

Because I see Patrick there I'll put the link here :D

Finally some news on the solo album! Sorry for not making the link pretty, sleep awaits!

I just don't really get the ship, I think they are better off as friends (but then again I kind of think that about Ron/Hermione as well. Neither of them is smart enough for her imo.

I liked Tobias a lot too! But I think Rachel was my favourite... maybe, can't really remember anymore. For me the reason was that I moved on to 'adult' fantasy and Scifi. ^^

Thanks for the link! It's good to hear the album is actually coming out at some point... *rolls eyes*

I wanted to say something about them in the theater but got distracted. :D

Hmmm....is 10 Ender's game? (and why does 16 sound so familiar?)

From: [identity profile] oanja.livejournal.com
Hehe~ well I didn't remember to mention it either and it was the one thing in the movie that was constantly interesting and riveting to me. xD

Yes it's Ender's Game! \0/ Also you might have read 16 for school, I did for the literature course in English.

Omg, we need to watch it again just to squee about Ron's shoulders. Honestly, my first reaction was like "o_o when did he get so big??"

Ah, Slaughterhouse 5, read it for fun once. It's a good book.

Also, lol, icon. xD

Haha~ that would be a worthy cause. Actually I want screencaps... Also I spent some time today wondering if there is HP RPS? Have you ever seen any?

Yeah I liked it too! Which is always a big plus when you have to read a book for class.

The trouble with that icon is that every time I use it I have to stop and watch all of it before I can more on. Very mendokusai. xD

I can't believe I'm about to say this but yes, there is HP RPS out there. I might have even read some long, long time ago. x)

omg I actually know some of these!! 1 is by Garth Nix, I love those books. 3 is by Meg Cabot (I think, at least, the same lady who did the Princess Diary series, but she has at least one pen name : /) And, um, slaughterhouse 5... Kurt Vonnegut?

And I think I'm totally off here, but is 18... Brian Jacobs? or was that someone else D:
