I have noticed this now that I've started reading RPS again that people write their characters texting a lot. This might not seem like much but when I got into fandom, um... six years ago this was completely absent from fics.

My point is (and I might be wrong) is that texting in the States has just become common/more popular/fashionable in the last few years.
I remember talking to someone on LJ about texting years ago and they told me that she can't even send them on her phone and that in general they are expensive and she didn't see any point in writing them.
I was of course baffled because I have been texting people since I got my first mobile phone in elementary school (13 years ago. omg I'm old!) Also: I blame my aversion to speaking on the phone (at least with strangers) to growing up texting. xD

Also a lame bonus fact: text messaging was invented by a Finnish person and was first used on Nokia phones! \0/ [/end of patriotic moment]

YES, THANK YOU. I'm glad I'm not alone in this XDD

I still get shit from my family and acquaintances about not calling people as much as I should, and for all those pesky overages on the cell phone bill for my insane text messages totals ^^; Oops.

Yeah, I had to stop texting as much because I got in trouble >.> So now I just don't communicate with people all that much unless they're online!
