One of those touristy posts

messy_kisses this weekend and it was so much fun! I had never been to Turku before so it added an extra dimention of exploration to the visit. messy_kisses was very patient with me and showed me around the city and waited while I played tourist and took pictures of every old looking building. =D
And that of course means: picspam time! \0/
Yeah, so a word of warning, there will be a lot of pictures of churches... I don't know why but I think they look awesome. =) Not that this thing is a church, it's the tower where you have the church bells, I don't know if there is a proper term for that in English (edit.... wow I wonder if it might be the bell tower by any chance... xD I'm an idiot)
We walked through the University of Turky campus and I had to take a photo of this, cause it's weirdly patriotic... and made me think about the civil war for some reason. (it says [loosely translated]: Gift of the free people to the free sciences)
Randon buildings, very stately though. (Turku used to be the capital of Finland before they moved it to Helsinki)
A statue of the dude who made up the written Finnish language and was the bishop in Turku in the 1500. He was also involved in the church reformation here (when Sweden and Finland became Lurheran instead of Catholic)
Turku Cathedral. It's our national shrine... what ever that means. xD The oldest parts of it that have survived are from the 14th century
I took a vid, because we had some good luck and a random choir was practising when we went inside. Also i think the church looks very impressive. Waah~ old architecture is awesome. <3
It always amazes me what people were able to do before forklifts and such were invented.
Pretty, pretty
Dude had the stars painted on the ceiling of his tomb, how awesome is that? (also it made me really curious about who got to be buried inside the church, I mean they had to have been very important to get the honour after all)
These are obviously from the older parts of the church.
Aurajoki or aura-river runs through the town and I bet it's very pretty there during the summer. Not that it looked very ugly now. =)
Some parts of the town made me think of Tallin or Stockholm, they are all pretty similar in places.
I want to live in a building with a tower. Universe, make it happen, okay?
We also visited this museum that has parts of the medieval Turku preserved. They were digging there in the 1990' and just found that parts of houses had been preserved under other buildings. They say that Turku had about 3000 people living there at the time and that it was the second largest city in Sweden (Finland was part of Sweden then) xD

When we weren't roaming the streets of Turku, me andmessy_kisses watched a lot of SPN, good times. =D and weirdly enough I got a lot of new clothes, which almost never happens.

Got this new shirt too. (I think I like stripey shirts too much...)
ps. while I was making this post I opened a bottle of pepsi and it spurted foam everywhere. Including my keyboard... Now I'm just waiting to see which keys will get stuck.
