Dungeons and Dragons

I really want to play it... the problem is that it seems really hard to find a group. I was looking at roll20 and each notice for games looking for players had like 20-50 applications! :O

I'm DM'ing two games right now, but I feel like I would be a better GM if I actually got to play as well :D Both my games are in Finnish and I would like to play in English for some reason... I think mostly just to not have to translate everything *sigh*

Anyway, it's Friday! Aaah the weekend finally (even though I had Monday off work, I feel like I really need these two days off work again.

Leia is back with me (mom brought her last weekend) and I think she's been doing okay here while I'm at work. At least none of the neighbors have come to complain or left notes in the mailbox. I stopped by a pet store today on my way back from work and went kind of overboard with getting her new treats and bones and activity toys, but I do feel bad for leaving her alone for such long periods of time while I'm at work so I think she needs some rewards for being such a good girl.

I've been talking for years about how I wish I could have a fannish-flavored or combined-with-knitting d&d. My sister and her husband started doing it weekly in person through a local game store in the US in the meantime, but I dismissed that idea because of a) comprehending spoken conversational Finnish when I'm tired is very hard and b) leaving the house regularly in the winter any time but like, midday means hiking around in freezing weather when it's pitch black.

I have heard of that site but not gone through the reading and... stuff... I'd need to figure out how to join but... if there's such a large supply of players wanting to play you'd think some of them would be willing to try out DMing! (Unless they're all people who've never played a full game like me, which if true speaks highly of the game's draw...)

That sounds really fun, although I personally would not be able to multitask like that where I would try to play and knit at the same time. I wish roleplaying was that popular in Finland that you could just find a group in the local game store, but I don't think it happens here (or maybe I'm wrong)

Also those reasons are super valid, my other group meets in person and sometimes it's a hassle to travel to it, especially now in winter time.

I think part of why there are so many more people interested in playing is the new resurgence or the popularity of the genre in general, also DM'ing is a lot more time consuming (and less fun) especially for people you don't know already.

If you find a party to play with and you need one more player keep me in mind? :D

I know the DM wouldn't be able to... maybe you're right. I've actually only personally played like... one evening's worth that my brother-in-law DMed especially so I could experience the fun with my sister. I still can't believe my dad was an experienced DM and he saved his notes and materials all that time but he never taught me or my sister as kids.

Anyway, yeah, of course you're right that it makes sense fewer people have the larger amount of time and energy available to commit for running a game. It might be less fun for them too (depending on the type of person they are I guess). I kind of feel like I could be willing to do it after I have experience from the player side, or you know, if I was there in a known group of people and nobody else was volunteering, I'll usually break and be like "If nobody else will I'll try!!" But you don't want to do that with strangers, of course...

Oh, that is kind of a shame that he never played with you guys.

I really do think it takes a certain kind of personality to get the most out of DMing. I had the game I DM again today and I think I'm getting more into it now (after like 5 sessions), but I still feel like I would maybe have more fun as a player... but at the same time something about it appeals to the side of me that enjoys being in control of stuff :D
